Theodore Noise, better known as The Noise, is the third boss of Pizza Tower and a playable character. He is the rival of Peppino Spaghetti and serves as a secondary antagonist.

Description

The Noise is an actor and news anchor for NTV. He is a short Human being with a long nose, a single bucktooth, a slight lisp, and short, black hair[1][2]. His typical outfit consists of a yellow jumpsuit and mask, an orange cape, and white gloves. As part of this outfit, he also has a thin, curled, mustache that doesn’t seem to connect to his nose while his mask is on.

His mannerisms are usually immature, energetic, bold and cartoonish. He frequently summons random, often wacky objects out of thin air, as seen in both of his moves. He also appears to have an awareness of the fourth wall and a tendency to break it. The Noise exhibits very little concern for others. This is shown within his enjoyment of pranks, propensity to cheat, rough handling of Mort, and disregard for the lives of the gnomes. In contrast to his goofy mannerisms and appearance, he can also do a devilish appearance when desired, like when becoming furious or using it to horrify even Fake Peppino. There are implications that some of The Noise's behavior is, in part, a persona. This is hinted at within one of The Noise's idle animations, where he solemnly lights a cigarette and takes a puff before returning to his typical, goofy grin. This is further explored in his depiction within the comics.

Noise's personality helps him serve as a foil to his rival, Peppino. While Peppino is short-tempered, anxious, and relatively fair, The Noise is short-tempered, confident and dishonest. This contrast is shown in The Noise's boss fight iteration and even more prevalently as a playable character. There are several instances of cheating within his campaign differences and most of his animations depict him as cheerful, unbothered and/or smug. For example, prior to boss fights, The Noise yawns and pulls out his bombs with a smug smirk, where as Peppino breaks into a nervous sweat and screams. The Noise's frequent craftiness and tool use also contrasts with Peppino's propensity to use his bare hands

Boss Room

To access the boss room, the player needs to pay Mr. Stick $200 (20 Toppins).

The boss arena is a yellow inflated boxing ring. In the background lies a yellow "NTV" building on a vast sandy landscape, a giant camera, and a giant, inflated Noise Balloon floating around. Two creatures resembling flying Noiseys follow The Noise whilst holding recording equipment. In his boss intro, The Noise taunts Peppino by scaring him with a mask resembling the latter, takes it off before laughing at him, and starts the fight.

Right before the second phase, the giant Noise balloon crashes into the arena, destroying the recorder Noiseys, and remaining there for the rest of the fight.

Boss Behavior

Phase 1

The Noise will taunt for a second at the beginning of the fight, allowing the player to attack him early and get a head-start in the fight. The Noise will perform a spin before between every attack he does, and every attack he chooses is random. He will always do each attack a minimum of two times, regardless of which order he does it in. The Noise will taunt the player after every attack, leaving himself wide open for a counterattack. The Noise tends to land near the player after being hurt, so the player must stay clear as The Noise recovers and performs his spin attack.

Skateboard

The Noise rides his skateboard across the ring, occasionally jumping. If he jumps onto a wall, he will bounce off it.

Pogo Stick + Dropping Bombs

The Noise jumps around the player on a pogo stick; if the skateboard attack has been used before, he will drop a bouncing bomb to follow the player, exploding after a few seconds or upon contact with the player or a wall.

Jetpack Dash & Bounce

The Noise launches himself towards the player with a jetpack. After hitting a wall, he will spin and bounce around the room until taunting. The more this attack is used, the more The Noise bounces around the walls and floor before taunting.

Hot Air Balloon + Dropping Bombs

The Noise jumps into the air and onto his Noise-faced hot air balloon. The ride floats back and forth and drops bombs onto the player. If this attack is being used for the first time, The Noise will drop 1 bomb; if not, he will drop 2 bombs. The Noise will jump out and will ground pound, often above the player.

Phase 2

After getting hit 8 times, The Noise and Peppino get into a fightball. After fighting for a bit, they break up just in time to notice the giant Noise balloon quickly floating towards the arena, causing them to scream in terror. The balloon crashes into the arena, popping the corners of its hat and launching both the cameraman and microphone Noiseys off-screen. Afterwards, The Noise regenerates his HP, and his attacks change slightly, generally becoming more difficult to avoid.

Noiseys

Noiseys will constantly spawn from the balloon’s upper corners. They act like Forknights, and can be thrown at The Noise to stun him for an easy attack.

Fakeout Taunt

After finishing the Hot Air Balloon attack, The Noise will stand still taunting indefinitely, waiting to be hit. Once the player is close enough, The Noise will puff up and explode, revealing himself to be a fake as the real Noise slams down from the sky in an attempt to butt-slam the player.

Noise Crusher

After finishing the Pogo Stick attack, The Noise bounds high into the air with the Noise Crusher and slams into the ground, creating a shockwave that must be jumped over in order to avoid.

Jetpack Explosion

After finishing the Jetpack attack, the jetpack will explode upon touching the ground, damaging the player and any enemies nearby and charring The Noise before recovering.

Skateboard Kick

After The Noise finishes skateboarding, he'll kick the skateboard at the player and do one of his taunts. If Peppino gets caught by the skateboard, he'll uncontrollably ride it to the other side of the arena and won't have enough time to hit The Noise.

End of the fight

After Phase 2 is finished, another fight will break out between Peppino and The Noise, until a minigun falls from the top of the screen and into the hands of The Noise, earning a scream from Peppino. Before The Noise is able to fire it, however, Noisette walks in and drags him off-stage as he screams in horror, depleting his final hit point.

Boss Rematch

After beating the Final Boss’ 2nd Phase, he will bring in the four previous boss characters, and sends each of them to attack. Despite each boss having 8 HP and an extra 8 HP afterwards, 4 HP will be drained per hit. The player fights each of the bosses one by one, and they use some of the same attacks as before. After defeating Pepperman, Gustavo will appear for you to grab and throw him at the remaining 3 bosses to stun them.

The Noise is the third boss in the rematch. He does the same attacks as his original boss fight, but usually being less powerful than in the main fight itself.

After 4 hits, The Noise will go down, and the player will face Fake Peppino.

Secret Room

The Noise can be seen with a cowboy hat riding a Pizzaboy's Wash and Clean washing machine likes it's a rodeo bull in the Staff Only World.

As a Playable Character

The Noise became a playable character on March 11, 2024. The update added him alongside his unique campaign, which can be accessed by going down on the file select menu after clearing a Peppino save file. The Noise has his own three save slots, and his campaign has its own set of Clothes to unlock, though all Chef Tasks are the same.

The Noise's moveset is much like Peppino's, with the following differences:

  • The Noise overall has floatier, faster controls than Peppino.
  • The Noise rides a skateboard, making him incapable of climbing walls; instead, he bounces off of them, giving himself extra height. Repeated use of this mechanic causes his bounces to be weakened until he lands on solid ground again.
  • The Noise can super-jump from anywhere, and acts out of it more quickly when it is canceled for an attack.
  • By pressing up and jump simultaneously while airborne, The Noise uses his Noise Crusher, which breaks blocks in a similar manner to Gustavo and Brick's double jump. Pressing up and attack allows The Noise to fling himself upwards, though it cannot be acted out of.
  • The Noise can maintain his momentum from attacks and wall bounces if the dash button is being held when he lands on the ground.
  • The Noise cannot dive, and will instead spiral in a tornado. This makes him one block tall, like a dive, but the moves that it can act out to are different, and it will continue until the direction stops being held. The Noise cannot interact with ladders while spinning.
  • The Noise cannot throw bombs. Grab Hands can take them from him, but he can only destroy Stupid Rats with them by walking directly into them.
  • The Noise is not given a gun in either of the boss fights that utilized it in Peppino's story.
  • The Noise's ghost form controls slightly differently; when it has at least one pepper, the attack button allows him to dash forward for a brief moment, and he will break ghost blocks when he dashes after having eaten all three peppers.
  • The Noise holds Mort by his neck. He can still double-jump, but instead of Mort swiping at foes, The Noise tosses Mort like a boomerang in the direction that is being held. Mort will tether The Noise to any Mort Hooks he hits while thrown, regardless of if there’s a wall between them or not.
  • The Noise moves slower while in the Rocket form, but automatically bounces off walls to change direction instead of needing to skid along the ground.
  • The Noise spins faster while in the Barrel form, and rolls up certain walls.
  • Instead of becoming Boxed when flattened, The Noise becomes tiny, and flies using a jetpack instead of by flapping.
  • When interacting with Rat Balloons, The Noise temporarily inflates, and can float upwards freely until popping.
  • The Noise does not ride trash can lids. Instead, he gets launched out of them covered in garbage.
  • After being hit by a cheeseball, instead of being covered in cheese and pizza toppings, The Noise becomes a cheese rat, which can move and bounce faster.
  • After eating the Pepper Pizza, The Noise automatically fires homing fireballs at nearby enemies.
  • The Noise does not become an animatronic when attacked by Toppin Monsters. Instead, he becomes a corpse, and another Noise falls from the sky a few seconds later.
  • The shotgun transformation functions as a spread-shot sausage minigun for The Noise. When ground pounding while holding the weapon, he will hover while shooting his bullets down, and will only begin the ground pound when the direction or button is let go.
  • The Noise loses his grab when entering a boss fight, and instead throws the same bouncing bombs seen in his boss battle. These bombs will be destroyed by most boss attacks, but deal damage to them when they are vulnerable. The Noise can still harm stunned bosses using other attacks.

Campaign Differences

The Noise's campaign, which has been described as a "New Game+", features numerous small differences compared to the base Pizza Tower game. These discrepancies are as follows:

  • The player only ever plays as The Noise (see above for the ways his moveset differs from Peppino's). Even during Gustavo and Brick's segments, the player plays as an inexplicable second Noise, who plays nearly identically. The only change is that the Noise that plays Gustavo's part in The Pig City hangs on rails instead of grinding on them, as the level would otherwise be impossible.
  • Mr. Stick is replaced by Noisette; she is one of the two NPCs who guide the player during Pizza Time, and all Toppin dollars are given to her for her tip jar in exchange for boss room access (and a kiss). A bunny with her face appears in place of Mr. Mooney to spend the remaining 90 dollars on one of The Noise's outfits. Noisette is unchanged during Pizzascare's escape sequence, but is a marionette in Don't Make A Sound. The second guide NPC during Pizza Time is a Noisey, who wears an arrow sign on top of its head and doesn’t have a pointy nose.
  • The UI is different; The Noise has his own variations of various HUD elements like new TV animations.
  • The Noise can take out defeated bosses in the overworld like Pepperman in World 2, or in levels where he otherwise cannot interact with the item in question; namely, he destroys the Gnome Pizzas and the Gnome Houses in Gnome Forest, being automatically rewarded the house's Toppin regardless of how long he took to reach it. The Noise is also uniquely capable of defeating Grandpa Pepper.
  • Tutorial content and Pizza Grannies have been changed to reflect the moveset of The Noise. The Tutorial level itself only focuses on The Noise's new moves, and does not feature introductions to game mechanics like Toppins and throwing enemies.
  • All level intros have had their jingles remixed with The Noise's "woag" sound effect, while fan-drawn stickers of his face are plastered over all characters and enemies present in the title art, including The Noise himself in the Pig City title card.
  • New songs are used during John Gutter, Crumbling Tower of Pizza, both laps of Pizza Time, and the third phase of the final boss. The sound test exclusively features the new tracks used in this campaign.
  • Because The Noise is being played, he is not present in the secret laundry room or World 4.
  • Pepperman draws crude and insulting pictures of The Noise both in his boss battle and World 2's map.
  • The Noise abruptly shoots the Vigilante with a comically large revolver at the end of his boss fight before the game prompts the gunfire. He will do this regardless of player input.
  • The World 3 boss is now The Doise, who, unlike other bosses, is permanently killed after his boss battle. Attempting to fight him again results in a free P-Rank, and he remains deceased during the final boss battle. The Doise's battle is incredibly similar to The Noise's, but his bombs are replaced by rocks, and the battle cutscenes play out differently. He can, however, be revived by taunting three times or more in front of his boss gate.
  • The Noise will always earn a Primo Burg while playing Golf by using a pencil to rewrite the minimum score needed on the UI, he will do this as many times as necessary to get a Primo Burg, meaning he will always obtain one no matter how poorly he performed.
  • The Noise has his own scream played over a unique splash screen while riding a rocket in Deep-Dish 9. This, when caught by Fake Peppino and the Firebutt transformation are the only times he yells, as he is not intimidated by boss encounters.
  • Noise Goblins will smile and wave at The Noise instead of being aggressive. To make one attack The Noise to earn the relevant Chef Task, a taunt will still irk them to fire an arrow.
  • A water bucket has been added to Peppibot Factory, which automatically uses itself to douse a row of electric blocks two rooms in, presumably to make the area easier for The Noise to enter. This bucket also replaces Gustavo in WAR and can be seen replacing The Noise’s NPC in Slum.
  • The Noise begins R-R-Freezerator getting the idea of drinking a whole can of gasoline to warm himself up, allowing him to use the same floating spin attack that the Satan's Choice Pizza normally provides. This allows The Noise to access certain parts of the level early, like one of the Secrets normally unobtainable before Pizza Time, but he is, however, still vulnerable to taking damage.
  • The Noise has unique interactions with many elements of the Pig City. He has different splash screens when driving in Taxis, swings Hamkuffs around by their chains instead of being restrained by them, and a Brick ball has been added to the area leading to the Pillar John room so that he can achieve the level's Chef Tasks.
  • The Fake Peppino chase sequence has been altered significantly such that Fake Peppino will rubber-band up to The Noise and easily catch him, similar to his original AI on release; however, when caught, The Noise becomes monstrous and does a devilish yell at him, causing Fake Peppino to nervously skitter back to where he came from. The music for the chase stops, and The Noise can freely escape. The yell The Noise makes is a heavily distorted version of his usual scream. It is still possible to outrun Fake Peppino however.
  • The final boss fight features significantly different animations during its third phase and final hit, with an entirely new animated cutscene replacing the previous one featuring Pizzahead’s horrified expression as The Noise’s giant bomb nukes the tower.
  • The Crumbling Tower of Pizza now features The Noise only rescuing Noisette, a Noisey, and the water bucket, while knocking away all of the characters that would normally be saved during this sequence.
  • The ending is different; the credits showcase the creators of each Noise sticker as opposed to the game's staff and backers, the enemies walking in the background are replaced by seemingly infinite copies of The Noise, and there are new Noise-themed results screens. The cutscene relevant to collecting all Tower Secret Treasures is also minorly different, having John be resurrected with clothing similar to The Noise and Pizzahead being absent.
  • Because this campaign was added after the Halloween event, all costumes collected from the event automatically unlock for The Noise's profile so long as they were collected in the corresponding Peppino file.

In the Comics

The Noise appears in both the Peppino and Noise Comics and The Bad, The Ugly, and The Even Uglier comics.

In Peppino and Noise Comics, he is often seen tormenting and bothering Peppino. His girlfriend, Noisette, is also seen in one of these comics, frightening him.

In The Bad, The Ugly, and The Even Uglier, he is seen at a location called the Noise TV Outpost, where he films himself advertising a party that is supposedly going on there and guards a Pillar John that stands there. This set of comics shows the more serious, less goofier side of The Noise, with him often getting tired of doing his job and pretending to be wacky and crazy.

In these comics, he also has a Pizzard assistant known as Dougie Jones, who tries his best to help him, but often fails to, as seen when he makes The Noise some tequila and he dislikes it due to it being pizza flavored. During the storyline of the comics, The Noise hears that Pepperman had been attacked by someone who "moves really fast" in a town that he had been trying to take over, which leads him to go off and help him, thinking that the "guy who moves really fast" was Peppino, taking Dougie with him. As the set of comics hasn't been finished yet, it is unknown what he does once he reaches the town.

Trivia

  • His design and character is based on The Noid, the anti-mascot of real-life food chain Domino's Pizza.
    • Noise's rabbit costume seen in the ending costume party picture and the Halloween update was likely designed to make him look even more like The Noid.
  • The Noise is said to hate pizza, preferring candy instead.
    • This is also a reference to The Noid, since he also hates pizza, spending most of his time trying to destroy them with his signature Pizza Crusher and other wacky gadgets, only failing to Domino's Pizza, whom he is the mascot of.
  • The name of the Noise's boss fight soundtrack is officially recognized as "Pumpin' Hot Stuff." However, in the sound test room, it is labelled "Pimpin' Hot Stuff."
    • There is a possibility this is a typo. However, it may be a reference to the Noise boss fight from the Peppino's Xmas Break demo, which bears the same name.
  • McPig stated that The Noise's voice is designed to sound similar to Jazz Jackrabbit, from the series of the same name.
  • On a stream, McPig mentioned that The Noise is of Mexican descent.[3]
  • The Noise originally could have been based on Hatsune Miku but him being inspired The Noid was ultimately decided on.
    • It is also worth mentioning the 2017 fangame Yo! Noid II: Enter the Void, as the final boss is an original character named Mike Hatsune, designed to be Hatsune Miku's father. His inclusion is a reference to the discontinued Japanese food delivery mobile app Domino's App feat. Hatsune Miku, and its' announcement trailer which has garnered an infamous reputation online for the awkward presentation from then-President and CEO of Domino's Pizza Japan, Scott Oelkers.
  • It has been said that the Noise's full name is Theodore Noise, which is shortened to The Noise.
    • Noise's full name was originally Theodore J. Noisester, but got changed to just "Theodore Noise".
  • The Noise is the only boss in Pizza Tower (excluding Pizzaface) that cannot regain a health point if a finishing blow is not dealt after depleting all their health.
  • Upon entering this stage, the game's window will rename itself to "Fighting an idiot in the Pizza Tower".
  • Bombs dropped during the balloon phase explode immediately when parried without causing damage.
  • When The Noise starts his boss fight by taunting, this leaves a window of vulnerability. The quickest way to get the first hit on him before he attacks is to press the grab button and press down immediately after, which will cause the player to quickly go into a bellyslide towards The Noise and ram into him.
